Ever wondered what goes into making a single 3D pop-up card? At first glance, it’s just paper – folded, cut, and glued. But behind the scenes, it’s a story of creativity, tradition, and dozens of careful hands working in harmony.
Step inside our workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam, and discover how handmade pop-up cards come to life.
✏️ Step 1: The Idea
It all begins with a sketch – sometimes on paper, sometimes digital.
We brainstorm themes: a birthday party, a bouquet of flowers, a reindeer in the snow. From there, we transform the concept into a mechanical paper structure that folds flat… and pops up with a surprise.
Designers use software to map out layers, folds, tabs, and hinges – every detail must be engineered with millimeter precision.
🔍 Step 2: Laser Cutting
Once the design is finalized, we move to laser cutting.
Using high-precision machines, each shape is cut from high-quality paper – often Kishu 204gsm, known for its strength and smooth finish.
The smell of warm paper and the soft hum of lasers fill the room as flat sheets become puzzle-like parts, ready for assembly.
🧵 Step 3: Hand Assembly
This is where the real magic happens.
Our artisans – mostly local women trained in fine motor work – fold, glue, and layer each part by hand. One card may take 10–15 individual steps, depending on complexity.
Some pieces are as small as a fingernail. Some require curved folds or hidden tabs.
Every movement is careful and deliberate.
🔍 Step 4: Quality Check
Before packaging, each card is opened and closed, checked for:
-
Clean folds
-
Even layers
-
Smooth pop-up motion
-
No smudges, tears, or loose parts
Only cards that meet our strict standards go into the final box.
📦 Step 5: Packaging & Export
Each card is paired with a matching envelope, inserted into a protective OPP sleeve, and grouped by design. Then we pack everything flat in export-grade cartons for safe global shipping.
From Vietnam to the world, these little works of art travel thousands of miles to reach shops, brands, and customers who appreciate something made by hand.
🧡 Why It Matters
In a world full of mass production, our workshop remains small, personal, and focused on quality over quantity. Every card we send out carries part of our story – and part of Vietnam’s growing reputation as a hub for handcrafted design.
